Sella Nevea is one of the most unique winter resorts in the entire Julian Alps. What makes it so exceptional? There are several reasons. One of the main ones is its reliable and long-lasting snow conditions. With fewer tourists than in larger resorts, you’ll hardly ever encounter queues. The resort offers excellent slopes for families as well as sporty skiers, and you’ll find top-level freeride terrain and fantastic ski touring opportunities.

Another unique feature is its connection to the Slovenian ski resort Kanin, offering breathtaking panoramas. From mid-January to mid-March, Friday night ski-touring events are organised from the main parking lot at the valley station up to Rifugio Gilberti. At the top, all participants are greeted with refreshments and a DJ. Bring your headlamp and your own ski-touring equipment.

Tarvisio is one of the most relaxed and charming winter resorts in the region. What sets it apart? Not only its wide, safe, and sunny slopes, but also the stunning views of Italy, Slovenia, and Austria.

Adding to the experience are excellent Italian cuisine and warm hospitality. At the top of the resort, in the picturesque village of Monte Lussari, you will welcoming staff and home-like atmosphere. An additional bonus is that Tarvisio is far less crowded than comparable Austrian resorts. It’s ideal for families, beginners, and intermediate skiers.

Ski Touring / Ski mountaineering 

One of the biggest highlights of the region. Ski touring here stands out thanks to its wild landscapes, peaceful valleys, and beautiful mountain passes. The best locations include Sella Nevea – Kanin, Dobratsch Nature Park, and for experienced, advanced ski tourers, the impressive Mangart – Predil route (located close to our Cave Holiday Apartment in Cave del Predil).

Cross-Country Skiing

Top-quality trails are located just 10–25 minutes from each other and from our Cave Holiday Apartment. You can enjoy skiing in Val Saisera (Tarvisio) – one of the most beautiful cross-country valleys in Italy – or on the world-class trails of Kranjska Gora – Planica. For easier, family-friendly loops, head to Rateče.

Ice Skating on Frozen Lakes

A wonderful winter experience you can enjoy when temperatures drop low enough. Weissensee offers the largest natural ice rink in Europe, Fusine Lakes freeze during colder winters, and Belopeška Lakes also occasionally form a natural ice surface. In addition, several indoor ice rinks are available in the surrounding area.

Sledding, Dog Sledding & Snowmobiles

Monte Lussari – Tarvisio offers not only classic sledding slopes but also a winter bobsleigh track. You can also book an exciting dog sled ride or try an adrenaline-filled snowmobile experience..

Winter Hiking

Ideal for romantics and families alike. There are many scenic routes to explore in Val Saisera, the Fusine Lakes area, Predil – Mangart, and around Zelenci – Rateče – Kranjska Gora.

Ice Climbing

Do you enjoy frozen vertical adventures?
The Julian Alps are full of waterfalls that turn into impressive ice walls in winter. Sappada, the Julian Prealps Nature Park, and the Friulian Dolomites are just some of the places where you can experience this thrilling activity.

These areas are true natural training grounds where you can learn to climb or work on improving your technique. The waterfalls around Chiusaforte are especially well suited for this.

Snowshoeing

Great for a slower pace and discovering the landscape in deeper snow. You can book a guided night tour under the stars, or a photography-focused walk through forests, meadows, and snowy landscapes.
